.htaccess
.htaccess is a configuration file that is used to indicate who can or cannot access the contents of a specific directory from the Internet or an intranet. Placed inside a directory, the .htaccess indicates which users or groups of users can be allowed access to the files contained in that directory. This file is widely used on unix servers.
.htpasswd
.htpasswd is a file used to store usernames and password for basic authentication of HTTP users. Used on an unix server and in conjunction with the .htaccess file, the .htpasswd file works to password protect web directories by restricting access to only users listed in its file. An access log is a list of all the requests for individual files that people have requested from a Web site. Such a log is valuable in understanding more about who is visiting your website and what visitors are viewing on your website.
